May 20th Update: Please read all points as we have gotten more specific or added a few.
Hello KU Families,
We understand that some Houston area clubs have started back up by classifying themselves as a “gym” instead of a “youth sports organization”. Also, USAV and Lone Star Region gave clubs the ability to start back up as of May 15th, but asked us to watch state mandates. As much as Katy United is chomping at the bit to get the teams back in the gym, we want to adhere to the strictest guidelines set to protect our Katy United players, coaches, and families. Governor Abbott’s pathway to opening youth sports has moved our start date to June 1 for organized practices. We will, however, open the gym starting May 25th for private lessons with our coaches, but we will NOT start the practice schedule below until June 1st.
When looking at the practice schedule below, keep in mind teams will swap gyms so that you will be in one gym day 1 and the other gym day 2. The schedule shows day one only so day 2 your team will be in the other gym.
Again, first day of practice will begin Monday June 1st and we will run through July 2nd.
Coaches will start scheduling lessons (no more than 4players at a time) asap. These are not “practices”. Lessons will be 45 minutes instead of one hour to allow staff to follow proper cleaning protocols between lessons. No parents will be allowed in the gym for lessons and we ask that you use Venmo or something like that for payments (directly to the coach) to reduce the chance of anything being spread through money transaction. Please contact coaches individually to schedule a lesson.
Here are the guidelines we will be following at the gym at least for the first few weeks. Minimizing Exposure and Maximize Cleansing: 1/ All KU Staff members will be wearing masks provided by KU. There will only be 2 KU Staff members in the gym during each practice time. One coach and one “admin”. 2/ Parents/guardians will NOT be allowed to accompany the players into the gym nor view practices. 3/ Parents will follow the designated drop off “drive way” to drop off and pick up. 4/ Players will be allowed into the gym no earlier than 10 min before practice begins. 5/ Players must be picked up not later than 10 minutes after practices end. 6/ NO Backpacks allowed in the gym. Please wear all gear needed. 7/ Bring ONLY disposable water bottles! Players will dispose of all their water bottles before they leave. 8/ Players will enter into the gym through the main gym door, will be given hand sanitizer and will be told which court will be hers for that entire practice. This court will have an X’s marked for players of that court, each 6 ft apart. They can stand here while waiting and for water breaks. Coaches will preselect which court for each player and will let them know where to stand and stretch before practice begins. 9/ No ball handling upon entering the gym. 10/ For pick up, players will leave through a garage door. Please have a large sign with players name in dark/bold print held up to be read easily by coaches. Player will dispose of their water bottles, get a squirt of hand sanitizer and head to your car with nothing in their hands. 11/ We will be cleaning after every practice with disinfectants that kill 99.9% germs. So that we clean thoroughly between practices, we will minimize items touched by players/staff 12/ We will limit the amount of balls used during practices and clean each one after each practice session. Each court will have only 8 balls in use at any given time. We will do our best to keep the balls on that court only to limit how many people touch each ball. 13/ We will only be using one stall in each bathroom. 14/ NO ONE will be using the water fountains. Bring DISPOSABLE water bottles ONLY. If a player brings a re-usable bottle from home, they will be asked to dispose of it at the end of practice. 15/ Items to be cleaned between practices but not limited to…Volleyballs, hard surfaces, doorknobs, bathrooms, etc. will be cleaned with licensed disinfectant after each practice session. 16/ We ask that you take extra precautions as well. Here are just a few examples we thought of… Have your daughter use hand sanitizer as she enters your car. Refrain from eating and drinking until she’s able to thoroughly wash her hands and face. Leave her volleyball shoes outside of the home and shower as soon as she gets home. 17/ We HIGHLY recommend your player NOT bring their cell phone to the gym. We will have other phones at the gym to be used in case of emergencies. 18/ Player masks are optional and at the discretion of the parent. Katy United will not be enforcing each individual parents request. This matter is between the player and their parent only. 19/ALL Players, Coaches, Administrative Staff and Volunteers must sign the “Return To Gym Waiver” prior to gym re-entry. This will be available on our website by the end of the week.
DROP OFF/PICK UP PROCEDURE: See Attachment for direction maps for each gym. Student Drivers…Park in area marked “student parking” on attached maps. Please do not enter the gym more than 10 min. earlier than practice time. Follow the route in the attachment picture for each perspective gym. Players ONLY will enter the gyms. Vander Wilt: Entry through main gym door. Exit through back gym door. Park Row: Entry through front door. Exit through back gym door. Once you enter, the coach will tell the player what court to head to and they will pick an X to stand on. This is their X the whole practice. This is their court the whole practice. At the end of practice, players will return to their X, finish their water, dispose of water bottles, get hand sanitizer and their name will be called out once the parent nears the back door. Please arrive no later than 10 minutes after practice time. We have a lot to do before the next group arrives.
Tryouts for 20-21 season are still scheduled for the week of July 12th. Days/times/age divisions to be announced asap.
We hope you all know we are working to do all that's best for our players. Please email Tiffany with any questions.
