WELCOME TO UNITED ACADEMY – “THE U”

The United Academy (The U) gives more playing opportunities to players to call Katy United home!

The U will consist of ONE practice a week (Fridays), ONE in-house scrimmage day, and FIVE local one-day tournaments (One a month from December to April).

The U program positions will be offered on the day of your Katy United tryouts by age group and through site registration. Practices begin in early November and end in April. Teams will have anywhere between 8-12 players based on registrations.

Teams will be formed from a combination of players registered through the site AND players offered opportunities at club tryouts. Please understand that the overwhelming number of tryout participants were DS/Libero. This means that The U teams could have some players playing out of position or have some DS/Libero-type players playing all the way around or just front row.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Club Volleyball

Club volleyball is an opportunity for girls ages 11-18 of varying abilities to develop their skills through training and competition. It is a select sport where you must attend a scheduled tryout and be chosen for a team based upon skill, athletic level, and potential. Club volleyball is more competitive than league volleyball where anyone can sign up and play with others recreationally and socially depending on age requirements.

Katy United Volleyball is an elite junior volleyball club sanctioned through USA Volleyball and through the Lone Star Region.

Katy United Coaches are all paid professional coaches that have playing and coaching experience.  Our coaches are held to a high standard and are certified by through USAV, IMPACT, PCA, and Safe Sport. All our coaches must pass a background check as well.

The fees cover the cost of gym rental, equipment, uniforms package, USAV registration, tournament entry fees, coaches salaries, administrative fees, and printing costs. All KUV players will have access to a full-time college recruiting coordinator, their own Sports Recruits webpage and Vert training systems.

Fees do not include: airfare, hotels, food, and any ground transportation to and from practice sessions and out-of-town tournaments, or shopping. Hotels for teams will not be included in your club fees. The majority of our travel tournaments are Stay-to-Play tournaments.  This requires players to stay in specific hotels the tournament director has a contract with.  These prices are lower than usual and generally 20 minutes or less from the venues.

A non-refundable $600 commitment fee is due immediately following tryouts for those selected to a 11s through 18s team. The remaining balance is spread out in monthly payments (August – April) or may be paid in full by August 1st.

We will honor sibling discount to player/sibling on the team with lesser or equal club fees.  Discounted amount will be 5% off the balance due after commitment fee is paid.  The fee can be paid in full or paid in 9 consecutive payments*.  “Pay in Full” discount and “Sibling” discount CANNOT be combined.

*All credit card payments are subject to a 3% convenience fee.

For more information about sibling discount, please contact tiffanyd@katyunited.com.

Tryouts

The tryout fee is $60 during early registration. If you register after early registration or at the door, the fee is $75. The early registration period typically ends 1 week prior to the first day of the tryout.

There are no refunds once registered.  If you do not show up or if you try out for another club and choose to stay with them, you forfeit your registration fee.

Katy United requires that everyone tryout in their predetermined age groups. See Age Classification Chart. Some players do play up, but at the request of Katy United Volleyball only.  If you are still unsure, contact Tiffany at tiffanyd@katyunited.com.

[DIRECTIONS]

It is ALWAYS in your player’s best interest to attend regular tryouts. If you are unable to attend the tryout days, you can still be considered for a team, however, this limits the opportunity to be seen with other players in the same age division at the same time. If you are considering the Make Up Tryout date (after all other tryout dates have passed), please understand, most teams will be filled at this time and we may only need a few specific positions.

Please see our tryout page to view Early Tryout dates and Make Up Tryouts.
Email Mike Kent to set up appointments for private evaluations at mikek@katyunited.com.

You will be contacted either by phone or email by the end of the tryout day.

We typically place 9-12 players on a team.  There are numerous factors that make this determination such as the level of talent and the needs of that particular team.

We recommend players be at least 9 to tryout for club. Katy United does offer our Starlights program for players 8-11 years of age. This program is an excellent start for club players.

  1. Parent or legal guardian must accompany player to the tryout sessions to sign paperwork and submit initial deposit. There will also be a parent meeting at the beginning of tryouts.
  2. Water bottle
  3. Wear appropriate volleyball attire
  4. Copy of certified birth certificate [This applies only to athletes who are new to Katy United.]

Parents are only allowed in the upstairs viewing mezzanine. Please bring your own chair. Do not try to get the player’s attention for any reason during the tryout; this only hinders the players from having their full focus on what we are asking them to accomplish. In some circumstances, a KU staff person may want to discuss options for your player.  Please make yourself available so that these types of conversations will not lengthen the tryout time.  We understand that this is a stressful time for players and families; we will always try our best to help make this experience enjoyable and educational.

Time Commitments – Missing School/Practices

All teams attending any National Qualifiers (Lone Star, Crossroads, PNQ, MEQ, NEQ, Show Me, or Big South) will miss one day of school to participate. Depending on what time you fly out, you may miss another day for travel.

All of our teams attend the Lone Star National qualifier in April.

Every athlete is expected to be at all practices and tournaments. All players (especially National 15s-18s) will make a commitment to Katy United volleyball as their top priority, however, we understand things may come up that can not be avoided. Problems also arise when players and parents do not look ahead and preplan their schedule based upon other siblings, school assignments, and tests. Missing practices not only affects your child but also everyone else on your team.

At Katy United Volleyball, we encourage multiple sport athletes, especially through Junior High. We believe that helps you become a better all around athlete. However; athelete playing time will be at coaches disgretion. It is your responsibility to communicate any conflicts with your coach. We suggest a two-week notice for all missed practices and a minimum of a month notice for any missed tournament.

Issues & Concerns

Katy United Volleyball Standard of Performance

  1. Show up on time.
  2. Know your responsibilities and Do Your Job
  3. Great communication on and off the court (verbal and non-verbal)
  4. Create energy with constant hustle
  5. Ferociously seek continual improvement
  6. Leave every situation better than you found it

Local Level Playing Time Philosophy

All members of the team, in compliance with the Standard of Performance, will be given playing time each tournament. Playing time will vary based on skills, strategy, game situation, and constant adherence to the Standard of Performance.  The goal of the local level program is to develop skills and understanding of the game in efforts to be successful at the local level. Due to the availability of substitutes as well as the positional nature of volleyball, playing time will not be equal throughout the season.

Level THREE Playing Time Philosophy

All members of the team, in compliance with the Standard of Performance, will be given playing time throughout the season. Playing time will vary based on skills, strategy, game situation, and constant adherence to the Standard of Performance.  Due to the availability of  substitutes as well as the positional nature of volleyball, playing time will not be equal throughout the season.

Level ONE and TWO Playing Time Philosophy

The on court goal of the national level team is to qualify for nationals. Therefore playing time is not guaranteed. Playing time will vary based on skills, strategy, game situation, and constant adherence to the Standard of Performance.

All conversations regarding playing time will take place between the player and the coaches at an appropriate time.

Throughout the season, a conflict may occur. If you have an issue, the first step is for you to encourage your child to communicate with their coach. If this does not resolve the issue, the 2nd step is for a meeting with the coach, player, and parent. The final step is to set up a meeting with the club director, coach, player, and parent. There will not be any meetings without the player present. There will not be any meeting with the club director until step one and step two has occurred.

Uniforms/Equipment

If you are missing equipment or have damaged equipment, you need to contact your coach. They will then contact the club coordinator. Please do not contact the club coordinator unless notified.

Yes. Katy United Volleyball has a Head-To-Toe contract with Adidas. Our reps with Adidas go to great efforts to outfit and provide quality equipment to our club.  We take this very seriously so no competitor logos during any team activities (practices and tournaments).
